Whats On?
What's On? Markets and More...
There's always something going on in Brittany. From Saint's days to Pardons. From Markets to Yacht Races, from Festivals to Fest Noz's - there will be something to entertain you when you come to visit.
I am going to try to siphon off the best of the best and display them here.
I'll start with the markets....
Markets in Brittany
In Brittany, market day means fete day and there is not a town or village that does not hold its own unique type of market.
It is worth taking time to explore the markets of Brittany, with their varied seasonal sights, smells and sounds. Discover the much-revered saucisses galette (type of Breton crepe)competing for your favour with the Roscoff audouille fumee (smoked chittering sausage), admire fresh oysters displayed alongside coquilles Saint Jacques and select from the best of the fresh quality produce on sale direct from the growers.

Fish markets
The first buyers arrive at daybreak, around 6am. The fish is set out in boxes on the quayside according to type and size and the buyers gather in front of the produce facing the auctioneer who conducts proceedings. By closely watching gestures and smiles he manages to pick up on, guess and assess buyers' bids and ensures each sale comes to a successful close. It's as if the quayside has been transformed into the floor of the stock exchange with oilskins replacing pinstripe suit.
